Configuration
Manage master data dropdowns for components, locations, event types, OEMs, models, and categories.
Overview
The Configuration page is the central place to manage the master data that powers dropdown menus throughout MineSync. Here you can create, edit, and delete the reference data used in profiles, standard jobs, work orders, and other lifecycle features.
Key Concepts
The configuration page manages six types of master data:
- Components -- Catalog entries for machine components (e.g. Engine, Transmission, Hydraulic Pump). Used in profiles, BoMs, standard jobs, and parts.
- Locations -- Machine positions where components are installed (e.g. LH Front, RH Rear, Center). Used in profile components and events.
- Event Types -- Work activity codes that categorize maintenance tasks (e.g. Replace, Rebuild, Inspect). Categorized as Maintenance, Operations, or Inspection.
- OEMs -- Original equipment manufacturers (e.g. Caterpillar, Komatsu, Liebherr). Each OEM has a name, optional code, and website.
- Models -- Equipment models belonging to an OEM (e.g. 793F, PC8000). Each model has a name, display name, and OEM reference.
- Categories -- Grouping categories for components and locations, allowing further classification.
How to Use
Selecting a data type
Use the Dropdown Type selector at the top to switch between Components, Locations, Event Types, OEMs, Models, and Categories. When Categories is selected, a secondary selector lets you choose between Component Categories and Location Categories.
Viewing items
Each data type is displayed in a table with:
- Name -- The primary display name
- Code -- An uppercase identifier code (auto-generated for OEMs)
- Category/OEM/Website -- Context-specific third column
- Description -- Optional description text
- Usage -- Badge showing how many profiles, vehicles, or other records reference this item
Creating items
- Click Add New [Type].
- Fill in the required fields:
- Name (required for all types)
- Code (required for components, locations, event types, and categories)
- OEM (required for models)
- Category (required for event types)
- Optionally add a description, website (for OEMs), or display name (for models).
- Click Create.
The system checks for duplicate codes and names before creating.
Editing items
Click the pencil icon on any row to open the edit dialog with pre-populated fields. The code field is read-only during edits to maintain data integrity.
Deleting items
Click the trash icon to soft-delete an item (mark as inactive). A confirmation dialog appears before deletion. Items with active references may still be deletable, but the usage count helps you assess impact.
Common Questions
What happens if I delete a component that is used in profiles?
The component is soft-deleted (marked as inactive). Existing references in profiles and BoMs remain intact, but the component will no longer appear in dropdown menus for new records.
Can I rename an OEM or model?
Yes. Click the pencil icon to edit the name. The change applies everywhere the OEM or model is referenced.
Who can access configuration?
The configuration page is available to Admin and Planner roles. Changes are audit-logged for traceability.
What are component and location categories for?
Categories provide an additional grouping layer. For example, you might categorize components as "Powertrain", "Undercarriage", or "Electrical" to organize large component catalogs.
